“Tator” Simpson, age 82, of Riverton, IA passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at his home.

Kay Lloyd “Tator” Simpson was born on May 30, 1936 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Charles and Gladys (Praul) Simpson.  He grew up and attended school in Hamburg.  He entered the United States Army in 1955 and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in 1959.

He was married to Sharon Kaye Doty at the Hamburg Baptist Church on September 23, 1960 and to this union three children were born:  Kimberly, Lisa and Bruce.  He later married Patty Louise Gray on February 18, 1984 at the Free Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA.  

Tator worked at various jobs including at Athen Implement, Missouri Beef for 16 years and for Charlie Zanker Farms.  After retiring, he spent his time doing small engine repairs - a job that he truly loved.  He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post #128.

He is survived by his children:  Kimberly Ann Jones and Ivan of Smithville, MO, Lisa Kay Haupt and Doug of Hamburg, IA and Bruce Charles Simpson and Tina Parmer of Hamburg, IA; seven grandchildren:  Mark, Ashley, Ryan, Cherie, Autumn, Kaitlynn and Christian; six great-grandchildren; siblings:  Rosemary Spiegel of Hamburg, IA, Betty Compton of Hamilton, MO, Bud Simpson of Wakefield, NE, Donna Fritz of Hamburg, IA, Ruth Ward of Riverton, IA, Mack Simpson of Lincoln, NE, Judy Winkler of Phoenix, AZ and Kathi Stutheit of Nebr, City, NE; many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patty Simpson and two brothers:  Wayne and Bill Simpson.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Riverton Christian Community Church in Riverton, IA with Mike Stenzel officiating.

The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be given to the American Parkinson’s Association or the Riverton Fire Department.
