Jean Smith Obituary

Jean Ann Smith, age 82 of St. Joseph, MO (formerly Hamburg, IA) passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.  She resided at the Carriage Square Assisted Living in St. Joseph since the spring of 2016.

Jean Ann was born on August 20, 1936 in Jameson, MO; the daughter of Munsey K. and Ida (Worley) Johnson.  She grew up and attended school in Jameson, graduating from Jameson High School with the class of 1954.  After high school, Jean worked at a dress shop in St. Joseph, MO.

On August 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dannie M. Smith in Jameson, MO.  After Dannie’s military discharge, the couple moved to Hamburg, IA where Dannie taught school for numerous years.

On April 6, 1961, Jean and Dannie were blessed with a son, Rodney K. Smith.

Jean was a devoted wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her son Rodney.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hamburg and taught Sunday School for many years at the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dannie on December 28, 2015, a brother Robert L. Johnson and a sister Betty Jane Fletcher as well as her parents.

Jean Ann is survived by her son Rodney Smith of St. Joseph, MO; sister-in-law Geneva Johnson of Jameson, MO; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA with Pastor Luke Fillmore officiating.  Burial will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA.

Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Hamburg or the Hamburg Economic Development Community Fund.
