Irma C. Kreifels

Irma C. Kreifels, age 86 of Dunbar, NE passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at her home.

Irma was born on September 15, 1933 at rural Dunbar, NE; the daughter of Bernhardt “Ben” Jacob and Clara F. (Rossow) Ganzel.  She grew up and attended school in Dunbar, graduating from Dunbar High School with the class of 1951.  Irma then went on to Peru Normal School for two years where she obtained a degree to teach.  She taught at District #74 Country School for a few years.

She was united in marriage to Francis J. “Pat” Kreifels on July 8, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by Paul, NE.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Altar Guild in Avoca.  She belonged to the Meet A While Extension Club and the Nebraska City American Legion Auxiliary.  Irma was also named the Apple Bowl Queen previously.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  Dennis Kreifels and wife Kay of Syracuse, NE, Janene Heyen and husband Rick of Otoe, NE, Dan Kreifels and wife Deb of Syracuse, NE, Luanne Arkfeld and husband Tim of Dunbar, NE, Gary Kreifels and wife Nadine of Avoca, NE and Kurt Kreifels of Auburn, NE; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law:  Marilyn Neels and husband Orlin, John Kreifels and wife Janet and Carolyn Lechner; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Pat Kreifels on January 6, 2014 and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law:  Jean and Don Wurtele, Joyce and Norman Kempkes, Marcene and Allan Burr, and Robert Lechner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse, NE with Fr. Ryan Salisbury celebrating the Mass.  Graveside Services will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebraska City at 2:30 p.m.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 at St. Paulinus.  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Church Altar Guild.
