Harley W. Owen, age 86 of Farragut, IA passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home.
Harley William Owen was born on August 14, 1933 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Forest Martin and Grace Fern (Stephens) Owen. He was raised in the Hamburg area and attended Austin School.
On December 9, 1953 he entered the United State Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1955. He married Margaret Ward in 1957 and then later married Geraldine “Geri” M. (Smith) Casey on July 24, 1985 in Sidney, IA.
After his time in the Army, Harley began working Interstate Nursery, and then he worked at Vogel Popcorn for 25 years and Eaton Transmission for 19 years. He retired in 1995 so he could spend more time with Geri and his grandchildren.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #8 and the Eagles Aerie #968; both in Nebraska City.
He is survived by his wife Geri Owen of Farragut, IA; two children: Jeffery Owen and wife Janet of Lenox, IA, Rodney Owen and wife Leigh Ann of Shell Knob, MO; three step-children: Lisa Turner and husband Ken of Farragut, IA, Pete (Gerald) Casey and wife Dawn of Riverton, IA and Dennis Casey of Colorado Springs, CO; 12 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; siblings: Richard Owen of Hamburg, IA, J.D. Owen of Hamburg, IA, Jane Lang of Riverton, IA and Larry Owen and wife Joy of Nebraska City, NE; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Harley was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Forest “Boots” Owen and Donald Owen and infant siblings: Robert and Sharon; brother in law Merrill Lang, sisters-in-law: Cynthia Owen and Esther Owen.
A Potluck Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Riverton Community Building in Riverton, IA.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the family.
