Everett Bivens Obituary

Everett Lee Bivens, 91, of Nebraska City, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

Everett was born in Redwater, TX on August 5, 1927 to John Oscar and Birdie Mae (Telford) Bivens. He attended school in Texarkana, graduating with the class of 1945. While in school, Everett excelled in baseball, basketball, and track.  

After graduation, he moved to Yuma, AZ where he met Jean Collins. The two were united in marriage on December 21, 1948 in Yuma, AZ and to this union three sons were born: Mike, Phil, and Jeff.

The family moved around for work for a time, eventually settling in Nebraska City in 1967 where Everett worked as a foreman at the Nebraska City Brickyard. After it closed, he began working at Kerford Limestone Co. in Weeping Water until his retirement in 1995.  

Everett participated in many different sports in his younger years, including track, basketball and baseball.  He even had an offer to play baseball for a minor league team.  He continued to stay active in all things throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and car racing.  He especially enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of the Nebraska City Eagles.

He is survived by his sons:  Phil Bivens and wife Charlotte of Ceresco, NE and Jeff Bivens and wife Bobbi of Nebr. City, NE; ten grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one brother Edwin Bivens of Ohio; sisters-in-law: Imogene Bivens of Texas, and Antoinette Bivens of Louisiana; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean Bivens in 2015, a son Mike Bivens in 1993 and his brothers and sisters.  

Memorials may be given to Tabitha Hospice.
