Evelyn M. (Horton) Roop

Evelyn M. Roop, age 91 of Hamburg, IA passed away on May 9, 2019 at Pleasant View Care Center in Rock Port, MO.

She was born on September 18, 1927 at Peru, NE; the daughter of Lester Raymond and Carolina Anna (Erdman) Horton.  

She was united in marriage to James Richard Roop on January 21, 1946 at Hiawatha, KS and to this union two daughters were born:  Nancy and Diane.  Jim preceded her in death on
December 10, 1997.

Evelyn worked at various jobs over the years including Otoe Canning Factory in Hamburg, as a floral designer for her daughter Nancy’s floral shop and in the cafeteria at the Hamburg Schools.  She was very active in the community and was a member of the Hamburg Baptist Church,
the Grape Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Nebraska City Quilting Guild.  Evelyn had many hobbies including gardening, fishing, camping, traveling, quilting, crocheting and cooking.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters:  Nancy Finnell of Hamburg, IA and Diane Zuck and husband Jim of Hamburg, IA; six grandchildren:  Rodney Finnell of Hamburg, IA, Brian Finnell and wife Ellynan of Riverton, IA, Ronda Lingerfelt and husband Quint of Rock Port, MO, Leslie Gillespie of Rowlett, TX, Mark Zuck and wife Amy of Knoxville, IA and Kim Brachtel and husband Matt of Papillion, NE; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother Dale E. Horton and sister-in-law and best friend Caryl Horton both of Papillion, NE; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings:  Raymond L. Horton and Eva Miller, and son-in-law Larry Finnell.

Memorials may be given to Hamburg Rescue or Mt. Olive Cemetery Association.
