Dorothy Margaret (Heng) Funke

Dorothy M. Funke, age 75 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City.

Dorothy was born on November 30, 1943 in Nebr. City, NE; the daughter of John E. Heng, Jr. and Coletta K. (Kreifels) Heng.  She attended school and graduated from Lourdes Central Catholic Schools with the class of 1961.  On November 23, 1963, Dorothy was united in marriage to Thomas F. Funke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City; and to this union four children were born:  Deb, Tom, Jeff and Ryan.

Dorothy was currently the Librarian at Lourdes Central Catholic.  She began her career at Lourdes in 1991 and served the school in many ways..  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers and was very active in the Lourdes Alumni Association.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tom Funke of Nebr. City, NE; children:  Deb Rettig and husband Kevin of Nebr. City, NE, Jeff Funke and wife Hettie of Nebr. City, NE, Ryan Funke and wife Lisa of Lincoln, NE; daughter-in-law Tammie Funke of Lincoln, NE; 13 grandchildren; siblings:  Edwin Heng of Tekamah, NE, Dwight Heng and wife Carol of York, NE and Eileen LeGrande and husband Harold of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law Deroy Harshman of Nebr. City, NE; many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a son Thomas F. Funke II in 2014; siblings:  Allan Heng in 1957, Ruth Burr in 2012 and Leta Harshman in 2014.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.  

Memorials may be given to Lourdes Central Catholic Library.
