Charles J. “Chick” Connell, age 92 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
He was born on March 17, 1927 in Shenandoah, IA; the son of Joseph John and Kathryn G. (Gleason) Connell. He graduated from Shenandoah High School and then went on to graduate from Tarkio College in Tarkio, MO.
He entered the United States Army on June 5, 1945 and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 24, 1946. On April 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lou Bonwell and to this union three children were born: Kevin, Kent and Joe.
Chick was the long time manager of Farmers COOP in Nebraska City and also sold Real Estate. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Eagles and the Elks.
He is survived by his children: Kevin Connell of Nebr. City, NE, Kent Connell of Omaha, NE and Joe Connell and wife Ruth of Riverton, IA; two grandchildren: Mindy Jarecki and husband Eric of Omaha, NE and Dr. Kassandra Davis and husband Tim of Kearney, NE; three great-grandchildren: Michael, Lance and Alex Jarecki; siblings: Marilyn Turnbull of Shenandoah, IA, Marlene Graham of Shenandoah, IA, Helen Castle of Shenandoah, IA and Donald “Pete” Connell of Bethany, MO; other family and friends.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lou Connell on Nov. 17, 1999, daughter-in-law Lynn Connell; brothers John and Pat and a sister Kathleen..
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE. Burial will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, IA with military honors conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88.
A Rosary Recitation will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening (4/8) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established by the family.
