Billy D. Hopping, 80, passed away May 10, 2019. He was born on July 17, 1938, at home near Fairfax, Missouri, to Everett Dean and Mattie Belle (Anderson) Hopping.
He attended country school prior to moving to Hamburg with his family and graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1956. He attended Tarkio College for one year.
In 1958, he married Anita Joyce Scott at the Hamburg Baptist Church. Three children were born to this union: Janet, Melinda, and Mark.
Bill loved and cherished his relationships with his family and friends. He was always proud of being from Hamburg. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and working on cars. He loved vacationing in the mountains of Colorado and enjoyed talking and visiting with people and made friends wherever he would go. He worked hard his whole life - at Interstate Nurseries, Hamburg Hatchery, Morton House Kitchens, Gangel Oil Company, and also owned and operated a full-service Phillips 66 Station in Hamburg. He helped pour the footings for the foundation of the construction of Grape Community Hospital, worked at Missouri Beef in Phelps City, MO, for many years, for Mount Arbor Nurseries in Shenandoah and worked for Andrews Monument in Nebraska City.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Hamburg; his children Melinda (Jim) Simonsen of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Mark (Susan) Hopping of Council Bluffs; his grandchildren Tyler Hopping, Katie Hopping, Bruce (Kamea) Simonsen; his great grandchild Pyper Simonsen; his sister Betty (Duane) Dooley of Olathe, Kansas; his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He treasured them all!
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Doris Roof of Thurman, and his infant daughter, Janet.
Burial will be at Hamburg Cemetery.
