Joseph Kahue, age 84 of Hamburg, IA passed away on March 6, 2024 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.
Joseph was born on April 18, 1939 in Honolulu, Hawaii; the son of Henry and Mary (Kupa) Kahue. He grew up and attended school in Hawaii. He later moved to Hamburg. On September 14, 1962, Joe was united in marriage to Lileth Honea in Omaha, NE. The two made their home in Hamburg where they raised their children Patrick and Lileth.
Lovingly referred to as “Pineapple Joe” and “The Big Kahuna” by his friends and coworkers, Joe spent some 34 years as a heavy equipment operator engineer. He was a member of Local Union 571.
Joe was a friend to all and loved to tell stories. He loved playing music on his guitar and ukulele and travelled around with his band performing in nursing homes and other places. He enjoyed playing cards with his card club, bingo, teaching line dancing, and playing horseshoes. He was a big sports fan and especially loved the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Most important to him, however, was being a husband, dad, and grandpa. He always made time for chasing around his grandkids, and going to all of their different school and sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lileth Kahue of Hamburg, IA; children: Patrick Kahue and wife Melanie of Hamburg, IA and Lileth White and husband Randy of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Krista Stockstell (Luke) of Sidney; Kaleb Kahue (Stormy) of Hamburg; and Jeremy Parks of Council Bluffs; great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Khloe, and Kyle “Little Joe” Stockstell; siblings: Eileen Caninaro of Kona, HI, Gerald Kahue of Wai’anae, HI and Lois Carter of Honolulu; other family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Ellen Stovall, Mele Ray, Henry Kahue and Phillip Kahue and dear friends: Bob O’Dell, Larry Warren, Bev Robinson, and Bear Graham.
