Duane D. Johnson, 96 of Nebr. City (formerly Naperville, IL) passed away on March 15, 2024 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.
Duane Dalin Johnson was born on September 6, 1927 in Bloomfield, NE; the son of John O. and Gladys E. (Eggen) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Bloomfield where he graduated from Bloomfield High School with the Class of 1945. He later attended college for a couple of years.
Duane entered the United States Navy on August 28, 1945 and served on the Battleship USS Iowa. He was honorably discharged on September 8, 1948.
He was united in marriage to Pauline Marie Sirini on February 23, 1963 in Detroit, MI. Duane worked for General Motors Financing (GMAC) for some 37 years. He was member of St. Thomas Catholic Church while living in Naperville, IL. He was a very generous person, donating to various organizations and one of his favorite hobbies was golfing.
He is survived by nieces and nephews: Deborah Young of Syracuse, NE, Leo Kreifels (Phyllis) of Lincoln, NE, Gail Hodges (Pat) of Julian, NE, Chuck Kreifels (Kambra) of Syracuse, NE, Joleen Kreifels of Nebr. City, NE, Kristy Sudman (Dalyce) of Nebr. City, NE, Roxanne Barker (Steve) of Nebr. City, NE, Randal “Scott” Kreifels (Gail) of Nebr. City, NE, Kelly Kreifels of Dunbar, NE and Darlene Shafer (Garland) of Auburn, NE, Barbara Thompson (Doug) of Clarkston, WA, Joan Dean (Bob) of Vallejo, CA and Rebecca Perl (Steven) of Novato, CA and dear friends Rob and Laura Moye of Naperville, IL and Betty Sinco and children Mike, Natalie and Patrick of Commerce, MI
Duane was preceded in death by his wife Pauline on January 29, 2013; his parents, siblings: LaVern “Swede” Johnson, Phyllis Wilson, Donna Kreifels, Harold “Buzz” Johnson and dear friend Jerry Sinco
The family will greet friends from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. A Prayer Service/Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. with military honors to follow conducted by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
Memorials may be given to the Southeast Nebraska Cancer Memorial Garden in Humboldt, NE.
