Virgil D. Lynn passed away on January 3, 2018 at Grape Community Hospital at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 18 days.

Virgil Dean Lynn was born July 16, 1932 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Eula Mada (Lynn) Driskell.  He lived his entire life in Hamburg and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the Class of 1950.

After high school, Virgil entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 12, 1952 serving in the Korean War overseas.  He was honorably discharged on Nov. 4, 1954.  Upon discharge, he was employed at American Meter Company for 40 years working his way into management the last 20 years before retiring in 1991.

Virgil was a member of the Kiwanis Club for a short time, Senior Center of Hamburg for 20 years, American Legion 20 years, Food Pantry 20 years, Nebraska City Saddle Club, and he delivered Meals on Wheels to brighten the homebound for 20 years.  He attended the Methodist Church.  Virgil loved the small town life!

He leaves behind his wife of 64 years Virginia Lee (Osborn) Lynn of Hamburg, IA; three children:  Vickie Bennett and husband David of Lawton, OK, Randy Lynn and fiance Beverly Weible of Dunbar, NE and Brian Lynn and wife Cyndi of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren:  Trisha Lynn and fiancé Marcus Kimpel, Heather Ewell and husband Wes, Carl Bennett, Timmy Lynn, Dustin Lynn, Derek Lynn, Tristan and Eileen Lynn; seven great-grandchildren:  Braxton, Nicholas, Alexis, Kelsey, Kaden, Corynn and Annabelle; an aunt Lois Lynn of Hamburg and two “special angels” Bob and Kathy Drummond of Hamburg; other relative and friends.

Virgil was preceded in death by his mother Eula Driskell, a brother Robert Lynn and his wife Betty and paternal grandparents Clyde and Ora Lynn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hamburg United Methodist Church, The Center in Hamburg or the Hamburg American Legion.

To the family, my sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. As you cope with your loss, may you be comforted by the "Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort" (2 Cor 1:3) that one day, "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." (John 5:28, 29) May these promises from our Heavenly Father give you comfort now and real hope for the future. My deepest sympathy.
