William Art Mead, age 93 of Omaha, NE; formerly Nebr. City passed away at his home on Dec. 30, 2017.  He moved to Omaha in late 2004.

Art was born on January 19, 1924 in Union, NE; the son of Virgil William and Lucy Bessie (Rakes) Mead.  

He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and faithfully served his country as an Army Ranger until his honorable discharge in 1945.

He was united in marriage to Wanda Lucille Gardner on Nov. 10, 1945 in Nebr. City, NE.

Art worked for some 25 years and retired from the Nebraska City Utilities in 1986.  Prior to his employment at the Utilities, he worked at the former ElectroGas in Nebr. City.   He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, First Special Service Force (FSSF) and the Army Ranger Battalions.

He is survived by his daughter Diane Jenkins of Omaha, NE; grandchildren:  Crystal Petersen and husband Jason of Omaha, Trent Jenkins and wife Analisa of Papillion, NE, Myrle Cunningham and wife Athena of Hamburg, IA and Amber Johnson and husband Jason of Bellevue, NE; eight great-grandchildren:  Damien, Chelsea, Gage, Elijah, Ethan, Morgan, Hunter and Kelsey; two great-grandchildren:  Ayden and Zander; siblings:  Janice Soriano and husband Tony of Nebr. City and Johnnie Mead of Stafford, VA; sisters in law:  Rosemary Gardner and Anna Mead both of Nebr. City; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda on June 15, 2003, daughter Patty Cunningham on March 24, 2005, great grandson Dorian and siblings:  Margaret Sitzman, Betty Hall, George, Stanley, and Ronald Mead.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday (Jan. 4) at 1:00 p.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Keith Hunt officiating.  Burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Detail.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (1/3) at Gude Mortuary.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church-Nebr. City or Karen Street Baptist Church-Omaha.
