Shirley M. Gruber, age 90 of Nebr. City peacefully entered rest on Monday, October 2, 2017 at her home with her family by her side.

Shirley was born on May 29, 1927 to Willard J. and Mollie (Schmidt) Joiner.  She graduated from Nebraska City High School with the class of 1944.  On June 29, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Raymond Arthur Gruber in Omaha, NE.  Four children were born to this union:  Dan, Marcia, Robin and Jayme.

Shirley worked at LT&T in Nebraska City.  During her time there she was an operator, a business office clerk and a cashier.  She worked there for a total of 34 years, until her retirement in 1992.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.  Shirley enjoyed playing in Bridge Club, and Golf and Bowling Leagues.

Shirley is survived by her children Dan Gruber and fiancé Jodi Trones of Nebr. City; Marcia Gruber of Nebr. City; Robin Gruber and wife Shelly of Dallas, TX and Jayme Gruber and wife Tammy of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one brother John “Dan” Joiner and wife Terri of Gary, IN; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willard on Dec. 31, 1982; her mother Mollie on Dec. 24, 1989 and her husband Raymond on June 10, 1993.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr.  City.

The family will greet friend from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (10/5) evening at the mortuary.

Memorials may be directed to the family’s choice.
